“Someday” trips don’t happen… unless you do this

The best money you’ll ever spend (it’s not what you think)

April 17, 20263 min read

What are some of your best memories from childhood?

Not the stuff you were given…

But the moments you lived.

A holiday.

A weekend away.

An adventure that just felt… different.

Think about that for a second.

How did it feel?

Why does it still stick with you?

Now here’s the real question…

When was the last time you felt that again?

This came up in a conversation with a client recently.

They were working hard.

Doing all the “right” things.

Saving, investing, ticking boxes.

But when I asked about their next trip…

Silence.

“Yeah… we’ll do something soon.”

That “soon” had been sitting there for a few years.

Nothing wrong with their money.

Just no plan for the life part.

That’s the trap.

We get so focused on building wealth…

we forget to actually use it.

That’s why I always ask clients:

Where’s your next adventure?

Not someday.

A date.

A place.

A plan.

When my wife and I planned our trip around Australia with our three kids, we did exactly that.

We picked a year.

Locked it in.

And worked backwards.

For two years leading up, we made sacrifices.

We said no to things others didn’t understand.

But that didn’t matter.

Because the goal was clear.

Time together.

Experiences.

Memories.

And now?

Even our youngest, Huxley (who was 4 at the time), still tells stories from that trip.

That’s when you know it was worth it.

So how do you actually make these goals happen?

We keep it simple.

First — get clear on the dream.

Where are you going?

How long for?

What will it roughly cost?

If it’s not clear, it won’t happen.

Second — build it into your plan.

This is where most people fall over.

They treat holidays like “extra” spending.

We treat them as a priority.

We map it into your finances so it fits alongside everything else.

Not instead of it.

Third — create the path.

For some, that’s a yearly travel budget.

For others, it’s a bigger trip every few years.

It might be buying a caravan.

Upgrading the car.

Taking time off work.

Everyone’s different.

But the goal stays the same.

Make it real.

There’s a simple way to think about it:

Money is a tool.

Experiences are the outcome.

No one looks back and says,

“I wish I kept that money sitting in the bank.”

They remember the moments.

The laughs.

The chaos.

The stories that get told over and over again.

So here’s something to think about this week…

What’s your next adventure?

And more importantly…

Is it actually planned… or just a “one day” idea?

Let me know where you are going and when.

Or

If you want help turning it into something real,

Because the best memories don’t happen by accident.

They happen on purpose.
