Have you opened your “super present” yet?
It’s that time of year again — Super Season (when those annual super statements start arriving).
For some, opening it feels like Christmas morning…
For others, it’s more like unwrapping socks from Nan.
But here’s the thing: your super could easily be your 2nd or 3rd biggest asset (after your home and maybe investments). Yet most people barely give it a glance.
That’s like owning a Ferrari and never checking under the bonnet.
So here’s a simple Super Statement Health Check to make sure your money is pulling its weight:
Super Statement Health Check
Balance – Compare your starting and ending balance over 12 months. Did it grow as expected?
Contributions – Make sure your employer has paid the right amount (now 12% SG) plus any extras you’ve added.
Fees & premiums – Review admin fees and insurance inside super. Are you paying for cover you don’t need or missing cover you do?
Investment performance – Balanced options are often 10–16% over the past year, growth/high-growth options closer to 16–20%. Is your fund keeping up?
Risk alignment – Are your investments still right for your stage of life and comfort with risk?
Beneficiaries – Who’s listed to receive your super if something happened to you? (Outdated beneficiaries are surprisingly common).
Retirement projection – Many statements show a forecast. Does the number give you confidence, or does it need a boost?
Here’s the golden rule: Super isn’t “set and forget”.
A small change now (fees, insurance, or contributions) can mean tens of thousands of dollars difference by the time you retire.
If you’re not sure how your super’s tracking or whether you’re on the right path to retirement, we can help.
Action Step: Contact us with “Super” and we’ll walk you through your next steps and make sure your fund is actually working for you, not against you.
